Shout Out to Ex-Frammies

I was excited to hear that Catherine had passed this along to some ex-Frammies and that you are following our adventures. You can just imagine what took place a few nights ago when we were told to go straight to the observation lounge with our warmest clothing. It was a Muster without the drill part. This ship is amazing and we were able to dislodge from the iceberg (technically glacier - more technically the continent of Antarctica) because we had the ability to steer the ship sideways. (Which answered the question of why the ship needs to be able to steer sideways!) And - you will be especially happy to hear that the only damage was one broken window and one lifeboat.

We all have fallen in love with this ship -- it is cozy and comfortable and capable.

Hurtigruten canceled the next trip to Antarctica. I guess the FRAM has to order a new lifeboat and also do full diagnostics to determine whether there was any other damage.

We are looking forward to our New Year celebration tonight. And - we wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Hi, I'm back from another land without computers...Chatty! Firstly, glad all is well from your iceberg crash. Spent all morning catching up on your blog and enjoying every fact, detail and photo.
Now for the home news. RER, as predicted...Olivia made her grand entrance into the world on Friday, the 28th. Beth got to the birthing center at 10:06 pm and she was born on the bathroom floor at 10:09. (And where was Marc when we needed him?) I, of course, was in Chatty all this time, and helped keep Milko afloat via cell. That was an adventure to be sure).Much more to this story...maybe I'll start a blog...yea, right!
Got back on Sun. and went right to Beth's. She's beautiful and Chase calls her ba ba. So welcome to the world, baby Olivia and needless to say Dido Milko and Nana Myra are thrilled.
I've been reading your blog all morning to catch up. You guys are freakin amazing. Scott called and informed me of the collision.
Love all the pix. Can't wait to hear you share all these stories. Just get home safely..sending love to you 4 and wishes for a happy, healthy New Year!
Yikes, can't believe we just missed your call. Great messaage, glad all's well and you'll be back with us soon. See ya in the New Yr.

OK so you guys are having the most amazing New Year of all of us. Frank is home now after a few days of what he thought was freezing in Colorado but it was only minus 10 so you take the cake. And we really loved seeing the pictures of the penguins! Thanks for making us part of your adventure.

Enjoy the rest of the trip and have a Happy Healthy 2008

Love
Elise

Hello Ruthellen,

Yes some of Catherine's mates have been following along. I can't believe the excitement you've all had. Ian, our expedition leader, said several times that we were very lucky and most trips do not go as smooth as ours did. Now I know what he meant.

Even after reading of your voyage I can't wait to go back. Isn't Antarctica is a wonderous place? As one intrepid explorer once said, "Everyone has an Antarctica." I was particulary awestruck by the magnitute of place.

Glad you all made it home safely and you got to see the Penguins!
